It depends on where you want and can play it. First you need to choose whether you want a buggy, a truck or a road car, then you need to choose whether you want a nitro or an electric powered vehicle. Check out the website in my sig for more information for beginners.

Traxxas slash is the hottest thing going right now. Looks like it will be around for a while too. I'm buying one for my son to race this summer.

get an x ray t3 there only $500 rolling jk my first rc was a traxxas rustler and it was very durable so i would go along the line of something from traxxas good for noobs!!

I had a XXX-S for a First Car it was Nice at Turns and Minimal on Maintenance

This is a vehicle after you spend the $1000 its pretty cost efficient because you will spend around $100 to $300 on a electric motor or a nitro motor. Well the baja motors will cost around $200-$250 and your getting a really big motor. And $3 will get you an hour of run time! But on the other hand would you want a new guy to be running one of these in your neighborhood? I dont! Thats a big vehicle to control at high speeds.
