Default Losi mini latemodel bat.

.The car does ok for a very little while, when it stops working a red light flashes on the speed controller. When it stops flashing red it will change to a green light and works ok for a bit.The bat. has been charged, wondering if the bat. is bad. Also if it is the battery can I just buy a lipo or do you have to make other changes to run a lipo.Does a lipo just make run time longer or does it make it faster .

Not exactly sure what the flashing light means, poss low voltage. Batt voltage recovers to some extent so that may explain why it sits and then tries to go after a few minutes.

Sounds like it is batt related though, are you sure the charger is charging them - are they getting warm/hot when charging? They should be getting pretty warm if you're using a peak type charger. Are the batts old? May be time for new?

You can run a lipo, its just a matter of the connections, the room for it to fit and a adding a low voltage alarm or cutoff to prevent overdischarging the lipo. You can damage lipo by overdischarging.

Thanks Duster I figured it's the bat., just didn't want to buy one if it's not the problem. Will the lipo add speed or just longer run time?

If you've been using a 6 cell pac, the lipo will be about the same speed wise since 6 cell pac right off charger will usually be a little more than the 8.4v you see from a fully charged 2S lipo. But, the voltage with the lipo won't show the drop off like an NiMh does. You'll get that high performance thru almost all of the charge with a lipo.

You will see about 20-30% more run time from lipo. Lipo doesn heat up and waste energy like NiMh does. Lipo converts nearly all the stored energy into run time. Lipo also weigh a lot less than NiMh and if its a light RC, you'll see than in increased acceleration.
