Default Noob question...

I've a couple of Traxxas Nitro trucks coming for Christmas (Stampede and T-Maxx)... I've got a couple of 'marginal' car batteries in the garage (never got around to taking them back after replacing them)... they will hold a 12v charge but just not really good enough to use in the cars... What I need to know is there anything I can use these for? Maybe get a voltage regulator and step it down to 7.2 for the easy start? Or maybe get a DC charger to re-charge the 7.2 easy start? Looking for WOTL (wisdom of the list)... Thanks...

Batteries that have sat around for a while will hold a charge, but the real deal is what they'll do when you put a load on them. Most will just crater and the voltage drops to next to nothing. You need to test them in some way so see if these really have anything left. That'll help decide if they have any use left in them.
