On board charging Battery

I am completely new to RC and my first purchase was an Tamiya F104. Since I installed the optional tray posts, the battery cannot be removed easily. Is there a heat problem to charge the batteries installed between the carbon frames or the surrounding plastic pieces?

If you are using Li-Po batteries than Never charge the battery in your car. Most issues with fires are when charging. A fire-proof li-po bag is a very wise investment. If you just have regular sub c cells than it's not much of a problem but if something goes wrong do you want to risk wrecking your battery, charger, car, electronics, motor?? probably not. I am sure you can find a quick release system for that car, ask in the onroad section.

i agree that lipo would be a big no-no. but i wouldn't charge ni-cd or ni-mh packs in car ether. the concern would not be the heat as much as what could happen if the charge goes bad.

lipo = flamage
ni-cd and ni-mh = shotgun shells in a fire

both could destroy an investment very quick. these cars take enough abuse with the beatings we give them so there is no since in putting them at risk when its not needed.

Don't charge your battery in your car certainly if its a lipo. Because if its overcharged it will damage your car.

I see people do this all the time. It comes at their own risk of possibly damaging their battery, and car. Do the safe thing, and charge it in a LiPo bag. At least it will be only the battery, and not the car.

even ni-mh and ni-cd batteries can explode, leak, and vent.
I wouldn't charge any type of battery in my car.
I use a coffee can to charge my packs in, I'm to cheap to get a lipo sack.:o
