Default First touring RC car

Has anyone ever owned one of those cars from rcvracing.com? I'm looking at purchasing a RTR Associated Elec. car, but would like to know how much better they are then the off brands (if the kind on rcvracing.com are "off brands").

easy ....

BUY A CAR that is:

1) reliable and tested
2) have lots of spare parts from your LHS (local hobby store).
3) within your budget coz you will need SOME OTHER things to buy also... like tools, after run oil, spare parts, setup board (if you go in seriously), battery packs etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc .....

but... if you r planning not to play RC for a long time... just buy a toy car.

Exactly, first ask your 3 closest hobby shops what is their most supported brand. Then check out the prices new and then check out the 2nd hand forums on this site. You may find a RTR car in those forums which came as a kit initially for a price you can't refuse
