Would like to get into off road racing. Does anyone have advice on how to get started?

Go to your local track and see what everyone is running, Then see what you want to run, 2wd buggy, 4wd buggy, 1/8 buggy, truggy, slash, you get the idea. Then decide if you want electric or gas, then see what your local hobby shop has parts for. finally see how much money you want to spend. Stock class is usually the least expensive and fun class bc money is not a big factor, it comes down to skill.
Good luck, Matt

If you are new to the race sport i would personally use a traxxas slash, run it in the stock class to see how you like it, if you do then upgrade to rpm plastics and bigger motor and watch you win races hope this helps

Traxxas Slash is a pretty good vehicle for someone wanting to get into racing, but the first response has the best idea. You could just buy a Slash and show up at the track, but what if there is no class? Then you would be stuck with a truck thats not competitive in other classes. See what people are running and what looks like a popular class that is within your budget.

I would go to your local track as suggested and watch some racing, decide what class you like (I have been told that Truggies are easier to drive than Buggies).
Then look at what parts and back up is available to you locally.

I just started racing about a year. I had no idea what kind of car to buy.I headed off to the local racetrack to see what classes they run and what kind of cars they were driving. I also talked with the local racers and most of them were running Losi 8's. The guys there said they were durable and the local hobby shops stocked parts. My suggestion is too see what everyone at your local track is running and the availability of parts at your local hobby shop.

I would get a slash because there durable and are a good starter car. Mostly track ive been to has a sct class all stock. So i would get a slash i made the mistake by not getting one and i payed so i would recomend getting a slash.

If you're a beginner, a truck is clearly the better option. Comparing trucks and buggies, buggies have a shorter wheelbase and are more narrow, making them twitchy and sometimes hard to drive.
Then there are trucks, which have a longer wheelbase and are wider, making them more stable, better for a beginner.
Like everyone else is saying, go with the Slash or any other short course truck. I might even be getting one in the future. These things are highly popular and you will certainly have alot of competition. Once you get better, you can add hop-ups, and there are millions of them to make 'em faster, lighter, and stronger.
