Brushless upgrade

Hi, about a year ago I got the duratrax evader ext for my birthday, I chose it because it was fairly cheap and a beginner model.
I can controll it good and get pounded at the local track. How do i change to a bruchless motor and do I need a new esp with it?

thanks

Yes you'll need a new esc for brushless. It's usually cheaper to get a combo with motor/esc matching. Novac and Castle make entry-level ones that you can find for as low as $140 or so as a combo for 1/10 scale.
Don't buy any more motor than you need or you'll just tear up your tranny. Loosen your slipper a little too. Make sure the motor matches the class you race as well.

Must I also upgrade to LiPos when upgrading to a brushless system?

Many people do, but lipo is certainly not required to run brushless.

RC Dad... thanks for your reply :)

Does upgrading to a sensored or sensorless ESC require Lipos?

no, but if you can afford brushless and lipos at the same time you should go for it. Usually faster and less work

would it be cheaper to buy a whole new car? one that is faster out of the box than the evader mybe a nitro?

Get a vxl bandit. Only $190! :) Brushless and ready2run.

He's already getting "pounded" at the local track.. sure he VXL brushless would be fast.. but the bandit isn't a race car.. more for bashing.. you might be able to beat a stocker down a straight.. if you can keep it hooked up.. but you'll loose the race from the poor handling..even duratrax has a buggy that handles better than a bandit.. sorry.. but that would be going backwards..

Pick up a Losi XXX-T or Associated T4.. any version of either would do you well... Maybe even consider getting something used from a racer at the track who is upgrading or has extra stuff... even brushed on one of these race trucks will do much better for you on the track.

Talk to some of the guys at your local track and see what they are running. Chances are somebody knows somebody that has something for sale. :)

Good luck!

Other thing tpo consider - for lipos you are going to need a lipo capable charger if your current charger can't handle lipo, lipo takes a special charging routine. You will need a balancer as well.

If you have to get a new charger for lipo, just get one that has a builtin balancer, its a better, easier way to go for running lipo.

Thanks for all the help, what about a nitro car?

offtraxx 07-03-2009 02:31 PM

most brushless car in the right hands will out perform a nitro car. plus the bl system don't require any tunning as the day goes on. once u have ur gearing set for ur vehicle, it's just charge and go.

for ex. the track I raced at last week had 6 xxx-t/t4's and 1 nitro xxxt. the ele were all bl powered and the nitro was driven by a very good 1/8 scale racer. there was a tough battle for last place between the nitro and a kid that had just started racing this year.

Hi everyone, would like to gather some feedback on the EZRun Combo with 8.5T motor before making the purchase.

Any recommendations for good entry to mid level range?

Thanks in advance.
