Default How to tap a motor screw hole

So I just found out my CC Monster 2650kv motor has a 3mm screw hole and my Losi 8ight mounting screw is a 4mm. I want to retap the motor, but I've never done this before. Can anyone tell me how to retap the motor screw hole from 3mm to 4mm?

1. what do I need and where can I buy it?

2. How do I do it?

Thanks!

Is there no way you can use the 3mm screws and a washer or is the mount hole so big you can't make that work? The tapping process is going to generate metal chips and I wouldn't want those anywhere near a motor.

To do this right, it will require drilling the correct size hole and then running the right tap in to create the threads. I'd consider replacing the mount before I'd re-tap the motor screw holes.

RCM sells a new motor mount, it doesn't say wjhat size, but I've seen no one mention this prob so I suspect it is setup for 3mm screws.

Thanks Duster.

Tapping the hole seems like PITA. I think I'm gonna try a 3x12FH screw with a washer and see how that works.

Not only is it a PIA, but can easily screw it up and wind up with a oversized, crooked hole that can't take any torque. You are so much better off solving issue some other way!
