Default engine rebuild - which oil?

Hi, I am tearing down and rebuilding a Go Tech engine i bought off ebay.

What oil should I use to lubricate the parts before I put it back together? Is after run oil ok because I was told to use teflon oil but dont understand what the difference is? I mean, both will lube the parts and both will be expelled when I start the engine next time...

what do you use?

Cheers,
James

I would recommend GMK Afterlife because it is safe to use with epoxy balanced cranks, Hobbico isn't.

WD40 works wonders. ITs cheap and is safe to work with

Default engine

I think after run oil would be better.

WD40 tends to gum up when the engine is up and running.

Thats simply not true. WD40 does not gum up motors, i have actually seen long term stored motors gummed up from after run oil..... Regardless for assemply wd40 is a nice light oil that will burn off after about 30 seconds of firing the engine. It will do no harm to the motor......

I often stored my engines with wd40 in them between races...

When putting my engine back together I usually spray a little wd40 around the front and rear bearing and put a drop of after run around the crankshaft before installing. I also put a drop around the both ends of the conrod and the backplate before installing. Just avoiding any dry metal to metal contact.

With the wd-40 I was told that it makes rubber parts swell so I avoid getting it into the carb and the silicone on the crankshaft. Just my 2 cents
