Out of storage it comes... need help with old and new.
I was a newbie then and I"m a newbie now, I'm OLD but still a newb.
Old Car,
I JUST dug my old RC car out of it's storage location. It's been dormant for quite a few years. The last time I ran it I accidentally hit a puddle of water hidden by leaves on the side of the street.
I put fresh batteries in it, it wasn't stored with them either. The servos' don't turn on, so I'm assumeing I have a bad battery case for the servo's or a bad switch. I'm not really sure but I'll work it out and then ask a ton of questions.
NEW car
I picked up the second car in my sig, yesterday morning. I came back from a job interview and charged up the roto starter and the glow plug igniter.
1. Do nitro cars need to cool down? Is there a trick to keeping them running?
Reason I ask is because after a bit of running it, it wont' for thelife of me start and if it does it will stall out a few seconds later. I wanted to let it idle through a tank of gas for break in but it never made it through a tank before stalling. I'm in SoCal so it's 86 degrees outside right now maybe a little hotter.
2. Is there a trick to tuneing a fresh out of the box RTR ?
I don't see a whole lot to adjust except for the controls on the remote and a screw on the TB for high speed. Keep in mind it's been 5 years or more since I've ran an r/c car.
3. How long can I run the car before it needs to cool? Keep in mind it will be 102 degrees here at my apt. today so it's not going to get too cool.
4. Whats the range on the remotes?
5. How fast can the HPI RS4 3 EVO+ nitro cars go? Just curious..
6. Does anyone still make hop ups for these things?
I've seen a couple sites but no sites with lots of stuff. I did find one site with a good bit of alluminum replacement parts. It would definately weigh the car down but I'm not all about speed... if I want speed I'll take my real car to the road coarses at Willow Springs again.
Thanks guys.. like I said I know almost nothing and knew almost nothing when I got my first one 5-6 years ago.
Thanks
Jake

I can't tune this thing for squat...
rich/lean screw
idle
wont stay running for more than 10 seconds... if that.
Almost ready to pack them up in a box for another extended sleep.

first and foremost NITRO IS THE DEVIL. the best thing that u can do is find the factory specs and put it back and start over. check the manual for where they rec you put the needle settings for break-in. afterwards tune it by hours on a watch.

I adjusted it back to what I can tell is factory.
The rich/lean screw is pretty much even with the top of the barrel. The idle on the remote is turned almost all the way back.
It idles ok now but after a few minuets it cuts out and each successive time I start it it runs less and less. I'm thinking it's just overheating. It's 100 degrees outside right now and not much of a breeze.
I'm going to run it by a shop in the next couple days and see if they can tell me if I've done it right or wrong.
I'd like to get it running, get my other one up and running (the old SS) and go race around with my friends. From what I understand the majority of the concrete road tracks are shut down. Dirt seems to be the thing here in Santa Clarita.
Nitro is the devil but it smells so good... lol

you gotta love the smell of nitro!!!!! instead of taking it back to the shop, if ur not to far away from a track see if some of the other racers might be able to help you break it in and start tuning it.

Today I was going to pack up the clan and head down to Compton and check out the Greater LA track, maybe I can run into someone there that can help.
