mystery motor.

I bought a boat off of ebay and it came with a motor that was completely orange, is an epic motor, says 5.0 on top of the endbell, has bb, and has adjustable timing. It has nothing that says how many turns are on it but the wire is thin and it works with my esc with a 20t limit

EPIC = Trinity. That means it's probably one of Trinity's "Speed Gems" series of motors since those all come colored. I dunno which one it may be though.

SpeedGems never write their specs on the can, only on the packaging's label; Each wind has its own color though. They are a machine-wound motor with bronze bushings.

As for "orange", could be either Topaz 11 triple or the "fluoro-Red" Ruby which is 16 triple.

Try: Tower Hobbies (cool, with pix!)

Default more details,

it has 4 holes for the mounting screws on the bottom of the can, it has cooling holes like the slot machine on the bottom of the can, and says japan on the bottom of the can

edit-one more, the soldering tabs that are connected to the screws that hold the endbell on have 2 tabs

Oh about the speed gem ruby, It that exact same color, except it has different cooling holes, my motor doesn't have the timing lines on the endbell, and imy motor doesn't seem to have any residue from the label

The ones sold currently now are SpeedGem 2, probably yours is one the earlier "1" series. Also not unknown to have slight differences during the manufacturing run.

All EPIC cans are made in Japan.

Your ESC does not know how many turns a motor is, its only rated at a certain current-carrying capacity (= recommended motor turns). If its overloaded then it'll either overheat & blow up or the modern ones have some form of TempFet protection that automatically cuts off before much damage is done.

If your motor is only doing very light work then perhaps its not drawing too much current for your ESC, so its not complaining for now. It'll just keep working until it all gets too much.

It seems to be reaching top speeds without any trouble. I have run it through several packs with the sprint esc and it can reach top speeds around 25mph.
