Questions?? 4 wheel drive

In a 4WD buggy what are the pros and cons of belt drive versus shaft drive?

Well belt driven seem to have more progressive accelaration. A shaft driven is more aggressive and punchy. Shaft driven are less maintence then belt driven wheelers.

Shaft drive would likely hold up longer on non-pro type offroad tracks where they look like onroad tracks with dirt. Some of these tracks i see in the mags are blue groove with little to no dust flying around so belted cars work fine. At my local track i would not dare run an open driveline car and expect it to survice.

My piks would be B44 or Losi XXX-4(sealed belt)

B44 will be a nice car to run.

Questions??

So on a rough off road track that is also used by 1/8th scale,
shaft drive would be the best option?

I wouldn't say this. I've been running 1/10th scale Xray FK04 and it's a belt car. I came from a AE TC3. The xray has been WAY less maintenance than the TC3 ever was.

I'd say it depends on the car.

The best person to be able to compare belt versus shaft would be a person who owns both shaft driven and belt driven and races using Tamiya.
