Default Charger and battery question...

I picked up several 3000mah packs from hobbypeopleand a charger. The charger is a ripmax propeak, some generic brand. The charger has an auto shutoff after an hour...The packs are always charging for an hour...after the hour should I reset the charger to make sure they peak? Will tis overcharge these packs? Thanks in advance.

what current are you charging at? and are the cells hot when it turns off? you may be charging too slowly and the cells arn't peaking, or it is faulty and not detecting the peak.

sounds like the packs are not peak charging. Ur charge has an auto shut off on it. Try and see if u can turn this feature off. It could be ur only getting a 3/4 charge.

Thumbs up b

Theres no way to changeany setting, theres just one button...it charges at3.5ah, and I always have a lil fan blowing on the charger and pack so im not sure how hot they are getting, would it be unsafe to let them have a break after an hour and put them back on to peak? Thanks for the quick responses.

you need to get a charger that will charge at 5 - 6 amps. Look on E-bay and you can pick one cheap.

Well if ur unable to change some setting on your charger I would recommend a charger that can. I usually charge my EP cells on a 5 amp charge.

well assuming 60% charge efficiency, a 1000mah pack (just making it easier to calculate) will take roughly 1.7 hours at 1ah. (probably done something wrong but it seems right)

Ever notice that the guys with charger problems 99% of the time have some junk off of ebay or some no-name charger???

Sorry for the rant.

-IF your charger is only putting out 3.5amps then its going to take a 3000mah pack about 50minutes to an hour. Should u reset after the hour? yes, but monitor the pack, chances are that 3.5rate is not really 3.5amps. I would expect after the reset for it peak pretty soon after.

-steelfish a 3700 @4amps shoud charge in 55-65minutes. What is this auto cut off your talking about? A peak detection charge should shut off after the pack has peaked. This FAST MODE your talking about i can only assume its peak charging. So use the fast mode..

PLEASE guys stop saving 20$ on chargers and get the better units up front it will save u all the problems we see here...

CHARGER SPEC U WANT MINIMUM:
-Adjustable delta peak
-4,6,7,8 cell charging
-charge rates from .1amp to 6amps
-discharge minum 10amps, 20-30 is best
-Screen showing data
-peak lock out mode option
-known brand names, hate to say this but if you dont see it in the pages of RCCA,EXTREME or RC DRIVER its likely not worth getting. Also if you see chargers on RCTECH with threads full of pages and pages of posts, chances are you should look into these chargers as actual RACERS are using them.

Top chargers:
DURATRAX ICE
CHECKPOINT CHARGER(ICE WITH BLING)
APS
MUCHMORE
CE

hey joel, how do you feel about this charger?

http://www.roguerc.com/product.php?p...0&cat=0&page=3

i know that it isn't one of the brands you listed but from comparing what u said to what it has, its missing the discharge feature and i think is shy of 1 A in charging capability. would you stay clear of this one or go for it?

Dont try and artificialy cool the pack while charging, it messes with the cells. They need the heat to aid the charging process.

JOOK: I think thats a resonable charger to look at, its a quality name brand unit with 5 year warranty, available in all local hobby shops. So you know its not a one off no name brand coming out of a sweat shop
