Gear Ratio Application???

I'm new to the r/c hobby and I need help trying to figure out how the spur / pinion gear application works. I know it tells you how many turns your motor makes etc. what I really need is to know is how to set up for each different track. Thanks

Well first what car and spur are you useing now?. I us a 87 spur and 18 pinion. It also depends on the motor your useing. I use that ratio for monster stock bt for a P2K2 i found that going up a couple teeth worked better for it. If your motor is burning hot and draining your packs befor the race is over it is over geared. What i do is just keep tying diffrent pinion gears untill i find what works the best. So what car, spur gear an motor are you useing then i can help you with the ratio better.

I have a Yokomo MR4 it has an 87 spur and a 23 pinion. This chassis has a limited space for the spur gear so I don't think I can go much bigger.

I run two types of motors one is a PMR Code Red and the other is a Monster (the one that has a Godzilla on it) I also forgot to mention that I was running on an inside carpet track but now that winter is over I'm gona run on a paved track thats much bigger than the carpet one. Thanks.

The stock spur gear for an MR4TC is 81,With your gearing your final ratio is 8.32,you should be in the mid 7s,I would use a smaller spur gear(82) and run a 24 pinion. The trany ratio for your car (MR4TC) is 2.2:1.The final ratio is for a monster stock (7.52)With a P2K2 I run an 82/26,but I race on a small track so if your track is large you might want to go up a tooth or so.
