New Car Setup
I'm about set to get myfirst RC and I want to know what I need to do before my first run.
I'm probably going to go with the Redcat Volcano Pro. At $229 from the LHS, it's hard to pass. I've watched many, many videos and read even more posts and received some conflicting information on how to begin. I had hoped that the answer would be a stickie in the newbie forum, but..... Some examples of things to do before your first run (maybe?): Use duct tape on the inside of the body to reinforce the shell so that crashes are less likely to break the lexan. Take apart the new truck and use blue locktite on the screws. I've also seen someone who did that strugle to make repairs and strip screws trying to remove broken parts. Glue the tires on the wheels? So, can any of you share your thoughts? What would you do before the first go? Thanks. |
Honestly all I really do is check wheel nuts. Learned the hard way they aren’t always tight out the box. After that it’s power up and go. There are some then go though the whole vehicle looking for loose screw, change diff fluid and shock oil. Some will re-enforce body with “shoe goo” or duct tape. For most part I consider bodies expendable. I’ve owned over 100 vehicles. And majority have been RTR. Nearly all have been fine. Occasionally I’ve had loose wheel nuts, pinion screw loose, gear mesh too tight. But that’s about it. Can’t say much about RedCat. I know they have been making improvements over the years. I’ve owned 2 when I was first starting in hobby. And it wasn’t a good start for me. |
Pick another brand and stay away from Redcat is what I say but hey maybe you will have luck, ive never known anyone to.. first rc vehicle i say go with Traxxas just because more beginner friendly but Team Associated also is good still fairly low price.
Checking all the screws,nuts,bolts on anything is a good idea |
First and foremost, read the ENTIRE manual.
any screws that go into metal should be removed, dab a bit of loctite on them and reinstalled. Glue the tires Check screw tightness/wheel nuts and you should be good to go! Have fun! |

Experiences and thoughts are welcome. Thanks. There seems be almost 2 seperate companies within Redcat. There are the entry level stuff. That’s sold under different names around the world. HSP and Flying Fish I know are two. Think there are others. Now there is Team Redcat. This seems to be where better quality vehicles are. But I have no experience with the newer stuff. |

I'm fairly new to the forum. From what I've seen, I don't think you'll get too many endorsements for the more inexpensive RTR on this forum. With that, just go with whatever reviews you can find online. As mentioned from your other post, I still think a RTR from Losi or Traxxas would be a better choice if it has to be RTR.

Agree with Mahjik. If you want more responses or information for the lesser known brands or so called cheap brands try the Rcgroups forum.

Atari.. i don't own a dhk. just read a lot of reviews and 1st hands on driving .more bashing than track.but in both its a decent truck.. I myself think a race or rtr losi will be best..one thing to think about .parts supply by you? does it exist ?
