How do electric rc helicopters go forward?
Hey Guys,
I am looking at a few rc helicopters on ebay.
Nothing special, but nothing too cheap.
How do they go forward, is it basically that 4 channel helicopters go forward?
Like, im looking at one where the "rotor head?" (place where all rotor blades meet the shaft, has some random bars around it that can move they are attache to the rotor blads i think, does that mean it can go forward?

Wow. With a question like that I strongly suggest you do a lot more research into model helicopters before you buy one. You will spend a great deal of time and money fixing things before you even get off the ground.
This is a fairly simple explaination that leaves out the really technicial stuff, but it should give you an idea. Yes the head is what the blades are attached to. The servos will tilt the blades in any direction, front, back, left, right. Now imagine the helicopter is in a perfect hover (off the ground, but not moving in any direction). As you move the right stick forward, the blades will tilt toward the nose of the heli, and the heli will move forward. Move the stick back, and it will move back. Left and right on the stick moves the heli left and right. Notice I said it moves that way, not turns that way. Wanna know why? Go do your homework!
Now what I described is a collective pitch helicopter. This has one main blade (well technically 2, one on each side) and a tail rotor. CP heli's are more manueverable but are harder to fly. Heli's like the blade EP have 2 main blades that counterrotate, and no tail rotor. These are much easier to fly and are better first models.
Before you go wasting money on e-bay, find someone who knows about helicopters. You will be much better off.

Thanks for your concern, i do know how regular helicopters fly, so i was just making sure.
I have used the dual rotor helicopters and im annoyed at how the stink at going forward.
This will be fine, no crashing will occur, and if it does what do i care.
Thanks for confirming my thoughts, now its off to ebay!

Ha,
Sorry my reply came off as a bit pissy
I just hate when people call me a newb
The way i see, it, if you dont try things, you will never use them.
So i have flown the coaxial, this is the next step.
Plus for writing good reviews, i got a 100 dollar ebay gift certificate, so this heli is basically free
-Thanks,
Jack

I'd still suggest a Fixed Pitch helicopter over a CP machine for a newbie...
