EDF Boat Build....The Beginning
 

Anybody tried this on RCTech? I noticed one thread and it looks like it didn't get finished.

I'm toying with all sorts of ideas, but since I haven't started yet I thought I would check to see if anyone has done this with luck or without. Plenty of successful builds on Youtube, so I figured I'd give it a shot during the winter bore upcoming.

So fast is always a must, but this will be quite the chore of balancing big thrust with little weight. For now, I was hoping to start with any ideas on the boat platform. I'd like to use a catamaran if possible, or maybe a smaller V-Hull. Being as I've never owned an RC Boat, I don't know which ones to look towards. Any suggestions?

Next will be picking out electronics, that part will be tricky. I'm thinking twin 90mm EDF fans and I'll leave the rudder in place as is and gum up the prop shaft hole. Sounds easy....I'm sure it won't be!

Any ideas before I start cranking on this? Snows right around the corner so I might as well start working on it.....or at least developing a plan!

I built an airboat using EDF's from an HPI Delta Twin - the performance was quite underwhelming compared to something like the Cajun Commander (similar size/weight). I would think the difference between a EDF and prop in water would be even greater.
