What kind of boat and whats a total budget, build a hull for $100 might be likely.

I dont want a kit. I want to buy materials and build it. either foam or balsa most likely. i want it fast rather than look good

I would build a mono, I would at least work off some plans, and do lots of reading. You should set a budget more of like $300-$400 by the time you get hardware and electronics etc. They do make good kits where the wood is all cut and you still have to put it together.

If you where to get something like this I think you would be very happy.

TMistak..
1st how large do you want it?
Id go with a balsa coated with laminate.carbon fiber or fiberglass.
lay the keel then ribs then stiffeners.. transom..
what power plant are you putting in it ?

Im a Certified Marine Mechanic and have built many Boats ships yachts from scratch..
IM me we can talk..

Frankly, a C-note will barely cover the electronics much less the rest of the boat. Buy a cheap backyard flyer and mount it on some foam blocks to make an airboat out of it.

Sctatch built

we used mahagoney door skins 5/32: 3 ply plywood very strong get some hardwood stringers cut out a plan of your own design ( use card board first)
one door skin can make a 3-4FT boat easy.
you can wet it and then you can shape it. clamp in place let dry.
I used spray foam to fill the front bow and hold the fuel tank in place.
we used to make weed eater mono's been a few years but we could get the door skins for $27 probably more now but you should be able to build a hull for less that $100. Built out riggers for less.
same methods. Go old school.
