My budget nitro boat build

I bought this hull and hardware for $40 it shows some age but I don't thing it ever actually used, it had a motor mount and hardware mounted but that was it. It was full of expanding foam. My first step was to cut that all out to have some room.

Seems like a good start.

That spray in foam isn't good in a boat anyway. The stuff can expand and blow the deck off a hull. I use nothing but pool noodles. Up here Dollar General had a 90% off sale on them, 20 cents apiece. That foam will also suck up fuel and water like a sponge.

This is the hard part. Patience. Key to a build but hard to come by.

This is starting to look like fun. Did you just use epoxy to seal it ?

Ron Olson 10-22-2013 04:42 AM

Is that a Dynamite .32 in there? If so, try a Prather 220, Octura M-445 or a Zippkits 444 on it.

I sealed some of it, with extra I had mixxed up.

Do you turn fins and trim tabs are required? I picked up some cheap proboat turn fins.

Ron Olson 10-22-2013 09:10 PM

They don't hurt! :D I've only had 2 mono's that didn't need them. Just mount them around 1/16" or so above the bottom of the transom.
Pro Boat mounts their turn fins the wrong way, I think that it's so that the boats fit in the boxes better. They could have just left them off and let the owner put them on. The turn fin should be 90 degrees to the bottom of the hull, not vertical or tilted inside. This allows less drag on the straights then digs in on the turns.
