ESC problem
OK I started out with a brushed edition of the E Revo and then upgraded to brushless .
I am using the stock black can motor the comes in the brushless edition of the E Revo and this ESC (1/10 BRUSHLESS E-REVO ESC Waterproof Mamba MXL-6S Monster e-maxx Traxxas 5608) So it worked great when I first got it now when I jump and land it, it cuts the power to the motor but I still get steering then when I goto pick it up it kicks back on and I can run it again. Just keeps happening now, so I thought it was the switch so I cut it and and wired it so when you plug batteries in it turns on. So ran it for a full run time and it seemed to fix it. So I ran it after charging the batteries and jumped it and landed it, it cut the power again. What could be the problem? Firmware update? Crap ESC? Batteries coming loose? Etc.? (I don't run Traxxas batteries in my E Revo I run Venom Lipos.) |
what radio?

Spektrum DX3C

you have a loose connection or a bad solder joint that is allowing a break in circuit and causing the esc to re-boot..
|
What batteries are you running?
If you are running NiMh with a new brushless ESC that has LVC enabled then you'll need to disable LVC. |

how old is the ESC?
Is there any dirt/grime in the on/off switch? I've had some switches go bad over time, especially flip style switches when dirt/dust accumulate in there. After replacing the switch, my intermittent problems of the ESC momentarily shutting off would go away. |

I think I bought it 3 years ago??

ah yes... I see the switch was hardwired now... I've had many ESC's from various brands tend to go wonky over time when the chassis slaps from large jumps... some ESC's will turn off and some will momentarily go full throttle for a split second... some have actually had the case split in half... I would try swapping out the battery first just in case there might be loose internal wiring that might not be giving full voltage the ESC needs. Then once you confirmed good voltage then go back and re-solder all the connections just to play it safe... sure would hate to replace the ESC if not necessary.
It also sounds like you're running 2 separate 2S packs, did I read that right? Are both packs the same age and treated like a single 4S pack since they were new? If not, then one of your packs might be bad and you might be getting LVC issues. |
some of spektrum receivers dont like a hard landing either.
first try different battery if you can. second check solder job at all places you can third try doubling or tripleing double sided tape/ i just got some of the kyosho 3mm vibration tape works good but my solder job still sucked so had a few issues with that. if that dont fix it probably esc board has came loose in case |
OK I ran it first with 2s 4000mAh Venom Lipos and had no problems but I was worried about one of the batteries being puffed badly and getting real hot. Maybe it could be the batteries the 2s 5000mAh? But can only do one or the other. New ESC or New Batteries? Probably just go the new ESC route and get a Mamba Monster X or whatever and just put all EC5 connectors on (batteries and ESC) and just hold on to the other ESC?
Also the leads came pre-soldered so really can't check that. |

UPDATE:
Just spent 160$ on new ESC and x2 Batteries. I will have the Spektrum receiver taped down. Hope to get all parts by next race day. Thanks for the help people of Rctech! |
