Please help me electronics not working!!!

Hello everyone this is my first post. Ive known about this site for a while and browsed back in 2008 when I was really into RC. I recently purchased a Losi 22 4.0. I swapped all of my electronics and everything over from my old Losi xxx-cr. Everything was working great before I swapped it over. After setting up my 4.0 and turning it on for the first time, nothing worked. The lights on the esc light up and it allows me to program it just fine. The light on my spectrum receiver light up as well. My servo twitches like crazy and goes all the way left and all the way right by itself. If I try to use the transmitter to turn the wheels there is no in-between, only full left or full right.

After being stumped for hours on end and trying literally everything I can think of, I removed all of the electronics from the vehicle and set everything up on my desk away from the chassis (I thought it was possible the aluminum chassis was causing radio interference) -but obviously that wasn't the case because it behaves the exact same way out of the car.

When I was soldering the wires to the motor I was having great difficulty, it took me a really long time. Im questioning if I fried the esc from holding the iron to the wires to long but I can't be sure because as I mentioned earlier it allows me to program no problem and all set and mode lights work. Its also obviously supplying power to the receiver because that lights up also. But would a bad esc cause my servo to glitch like crazy??

I also forgot to mention there is zero throttle. The motor does not turn at all while pressing throttle trigger.

Could it be a receiver problem?? I checked the antenna wire for any type of damage and everything appears in very good condition. I also bind the transmitter to the receiver and that didn't give any problems.

I really don't know what to do from this point. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

:confused::confused::confused:

Thanks everybody I figured it out myself, bad receiver. Very happy to know I can rely on all of you nice people here on the rctech forums!

Electronic related posts that are about a broad based issue that is covering servo, motor, esc and rx function but contain only the brand but not even the specific model of rx alone are rarely going to get many, if any, replies. It's like going into AutoZone and saying, "I need windshield wipers for my Chevy... " and then wondering why the counterperson stares back at you blankly until you add what model, year, etc.

I know the Internet is a fast medium, you can get stupid or the right aswers within secconds. Forums on the other hand are old fashion, the right person has to read and understand your problem and also be willing to answer. And that can take some time than only the few hours patience you had.

But I am sorry I could not answer your question, in that time it was night time over here so I was at sleep.

You are right I was a little impatient, this car is taking me much longer to get set up then I originally anticipated. It turns out that I was wrong about the receiver. I was pretty confident that was the issue but apparently it was not.

I plugged in my new spectrum sr310 3 ch surface receiver and bonded it to my dx3r and I am still getting the exact same problem :weird:

I have a jr racing z9100s digital servo. I plugged in a old crappy servo I had laying around to test and it did the exact same thing so I eliminated the servo as being the problem.

I have a brand new never used Reedy 540-m3 17.5 motor. I tried also with a known good motor that I had laying around and same problem.

Battery is brand new and fully charged. Batteries in tx are also brand new. My soldering is also very good in my opinion so I don't think its that. That only leaves the speed control to be bad. It is a LRP sphere competition (sensored) 2007 edition. It is old but still in good shape. It was working perfectly fine on the car I was running it on just before swapping it over to the lost 22 4.0. It allows me to program it perfectly fine and all the lights are working correctly. So I don't see how that could be the issue.

Ive also tested the entire circuit with my old team Orion 4800 mAh battery that I was using previously on my other car (same issue occurred) so battery being the issue is eliminated.

I am getting power to the steering servo because the wheels go full left and full right when barley touching the steering control on tx.

No response for throttle.

I apologize to everyone if I came off rude and impatient in my previous posts. I am dealing with a bit of frustration with this whole process as it was supposed to be simple as swapping everything over and it working just as it did in my other car. I honestly don't know what happen and I really don't want to drop $250 on a speed control if I'm not even sure thats the problem. I already spent hundreds more then anticipated :ha:.

Thanks in advance everybody. :deathstar

Because you have a 2.4ghz system and more and more house hold stuff (like internet) is working on 2.4GHz it could be wise to go outside to a more 2.4ghz quiet place and try it again.

If the problem remains with everything you already have tried it will leave the ESC and the transmitter open as the cause.... The ESC is easy to cheack with removing the ESC servo connector from the receiver and plug in a 6v battery into the receiver to see if the servo is still glitching.

Ghostrc8 06-19-2017 11:35 AM

Thank you Roelof. I went outside and tried it and it still did the same thing. I went to 2 stores and I couldn't find a 6v battery. Is there any other way you know of to test it?

I'm pretty much ready to order a new speed control so I can end this problem once and for all lol. Any recommendations?? Im thinking to get a Reedy to match the motor.

Also was wondering, would a bad esc make the steering glitch??? I don't know if somehow thats all intertwined or if I am looking at 2 separate problems. My guess would be its somehow only one problem because I know the servo and receiver are good. Unless its something with my tx but I'm not sure how to test that either.

Spektrum is pretty notorious for needing glitch busters in their receivers. And it could be the radio itself and not the receiver

Ghostrc8 06-19-2017 11:49 AM

Yes Ive heard of these glitch busters, but I never needed one before on my other car with the same electronic setup. That would be great if that would solve my problem.

Any idea how to determine if the tx is no good?

You'd need another known working transmitter to test. Sometimes a hobby shop has extra radios for demo cars that they might be willing to test with.

Thanks

Ghostrc8 06-19-2017 11:55 AM

That is a great idea thank you.

the rc guy 06-19-2017 12:55 PM

ghost .. from reading all posts .. sounds like you did damage to esc while soldering.. unplug esc... get a 4/aa holdr a bec pack..used for nitro... plug that in to rx to test... make sure radio endpoints are at 100.. make sure trim nob is in neutral.. now get a know working esc... good luck..

Ghostrc8 06-19-2017 01:21 PM

rc guy, thank you. I will see what I can do. I just gave one of those aa batt. packs away had it for years and never used it lol. At this point I think I'm just gonna take it down to my local hobby shop one day this week and get a confirmation that I need either esc or radio.

I prob did burn out the esc like you said. luckily I found a nice Reedy one that wasn't to expensive. Since mine is from 2007 its probably time to upgrade anyway lol.

Thanks again.

Roelof 06-19-2017 01:33 PM

If he has no right transmitter he could help you with a reaceiver battery to test the receiver/servo w/o ESC.
