Power for fan
On my hobbywing esc's (v3.1) and (xr10 pro) there is an external receiver plug. Can I use this to power a fan for the motor? Any issues with doing this? One of my receivers is only a 3 channel so I have no other open ports but the bind port. (Spectrum receiver)

Yes, I have a port that the fan for the ESC is plugged into. I am wanting to run another fan to the motor. Can I use the other port on the ESC to run a fan as well? Or is that other port only for the program card?
Can you run a Y off the esc fan port to run another fan for the motor? |

You use your free channel on the RX to run a motor fan or use a y splitter to tap into the steering servo or ESC power wire going to the RX.

Btw you say you have a 3-channel RX. So that is one channel for your ESC, one channel for your servo and the last one for the fan. Right?
From Amain's website for the xr10 Separate Programming/Fan Port The separate PRG/FAN port on the ESC can power an external fan for maximize cooling performance or connect the ESC to a LCD program box or WiFi module for ESC programming. |
The 3 channel has one for the esc, one for the servo, and one for my transponder. So it leaves no open port. I may just run the fan off the battery just gotta figure out how to wire it all up.

See, that is why I ask on here. Making my life easier. My only concern will this put a strain on the BEC with running 2 fans, motor, transponder, servo all off the esc. Would it be better to run the fan off a battery versus the receiver?

Thanks for all your help. It really shouldn't be an issue at all. The fans are low power, usually running off of 5v or 6v so your current ESC's (XR10 Pro and v3.1) wouldn't have a problem. I could only see a potential issue if you were using one of the cheap Hobbyking ESC's with a puny 5v BEC lol |
make a pig tail to hook 3 rx wires into and run off 3rd channel on rx...fans dont draw alot of amps..

If you want to be happy and care free solder your motor and/ESC fan to the ESC +/-
If you don't.. be ready for one of two things- 1. Radio brown out (and possibly run away) 2. Esc short out when fan shorts out |

How would the fan cause a brownout? And how is it going to randomly short? Is someone clipping wires under the hood when I'm not looking? I'm genuinely curious because I've been running my fans off the RX port all along and never had a problem. Nor have I ever fried an ESC (knock on wood)
