ESC temps
Hi how do we lower esc temps besides getting a bigger amp esc. Will lowering esc timing or punch control settings effect the temps of the esc or just motor. Atm my motor is at 110F-115F ESC was at 140F went up 2 sizes pinion and it went to 155F still under the max temp but getting up there thanks. Car is going really good would prefer to keep pinion size around what i have atm

do you have a fan on the ESC?

yeah

I wouldnt worry too much about it. As you said, it is still under the max operating temps, so unless its going over, it should be fine.
Lowering the boost and turbo timing should help reduce the temps as the amps draw from the motor is reduced. |
ok i try some testing tommorrow with the timing see how it goes

Depending on your ESC, if it has an adjustable drive frequency, some ESC's will dramatically drop temp by lowering that setting. For example, my HW XR10 pro runs 20f hotter at 16k than 8k just by varying that setting. That being said, it's still well within an acceptable temp range either way so I prefer the smoother 16k setting but it could be something to try if you still need the power of an aggressive boost/turbo profile but want to try to cool the ESC a little.

Also lower the punch rate on the ESC... the biggest draw on current is when the car first starts to accelerate from a dead stop, you will significantly reduce the strain by lowering the punch and temps will drop. Most of my cars (with HobbyWing ESC's) are typically set to 3 on the punch rate ( I believe 5 is the default), this also helps when driving on loose pack to have better traction control... win-win :)
