Tekin RS issues ?
1 rx8 3 rs and only 1 rs has to have the battery plugged in for the hotwire to work ? Picked up a samsung s4 for tweaking and 2 rs have v223 and one has v212. One with 223 has to have a battery plugged in for phone or laptop to program it. Seems weird ? Also another weird one. Same 2s battery reciever and novak 13.5. V223 motor rips v212 about 1/2 speed. Recalibrate no change. Just updated to v223 will see if it fixes it. Any ideas ?

On another note. There's a reason the measure twice cut once ruled come out. Just soldered up three speed controls in a hurry and managed to Solder the battery wires backwards on one of the Tekin RS. No smoke but boy did she get hot. Did not pop the cap either. So I am wondering if the is cap is bad. Anyway resoldered it correctly and it seems to work fine? Seems kind of strange to me but not complaining.

Sucks I just bought them. Gotta remember to pay attention. On the bright side I have a spare case. When it quits working.
Maybe still under warranty? Lol |
An original RS is not going to be under warranty. Hooking them up backwards also is not covered.
v223 is the last version available for the Gen 1 RS, and will be required to use the mobile app properly. |
Dang didn't fall in 120 day warranty and I did admit to reverse polarity. lol. I am running 223 on all three. One had 212 and worked fine but one on 223 needs a battery plugged in.

Is there a way to actually prove that someone reversed polarity on an ESC without them telling you they did it? Other than the potential melted wires etc.
|
I got lucky with an original RS plugged in backwards as well, worked great for a couple of years. it crapped out after it sat a few years though, oddly enough.

I unsoldered the wires and put it away. Not tempted to run it an possibly ruining something else. I'm sure they can tell by the fets it was plugged in backwards. That all that went bad in mine. Otherwise besides the smell you would never know.

I hooked up my son's Hobbywing Justock backwards. He had one battery that had the negative and positive termnals switched and used that battery terminals forward instead of rearward. I had forgotten this and went to hook up the battery and I stopped plugging it in because a spark jumped across from the battery to the bullet plug I was holding. Man, I jerked it back extremely quickly, but the plug still got darn hot very quickly. I let everything cool off, then plugged it in correctly and it still worked. But after seeing the photos in this thread, I just took the ESC apart and to my amazement, it looks fine, nothing is fried. I guess I got really lucky. And for the life of me, why isn't there reverse polarity protection on ESC's? Also, the other thing that has always bothered me is why don't batteries have a 5mm plug on the negative and a 5.5mm plug on the positive side? Wouldn't be that tough.

I can honestly say this is the first tekin I've had to bad (and it's my fault) going all the way back to the 80's. And really it's still not dead but I don't want to ruin something else by running it. Tekin has always been good stuff for me.
