Guys, Is RX4 as strong as RX8g2 or stronger? Can it be used for 1:8 racing or software is different for smoother acceleration?

The RX4 has fewer FETs than the RX8, so it can't handle quite as much power. However, I've seen several people use them in an 8th scale buggy without any issues. Truggy is probably too much, though. Just follow the KV restrictions posted on the website and run a fan.

Software wise, they can be set up in the same fashion, so no problems there. The default settings are a bit different, if I remember correctly.

Yes, the RX8 gen2 is still more capable than the RX4. Definitely a smaller difference than the Gen3.

What is your exact scenario you are debating?

One of my old ESCs just burned in 1:10 truggy, thinking of putting waterprooved by me rx8g2 or buying rx4 (instead of rx8g3) already waterproof. Or buy rx8g3 and waterproof it, but it is a little too good for this rather small car. Sure when in need this esc will go to 1:8 buggy too. I was just hoping rx4 is waterprooved rx8g2

I think the RX4 is your best bet. That way you don't void any warranties by altering a Gen3 and it could still be a backup for your 1:8 buggy.

Out of curiosity, what method were you planning to use for waterproofing the RX8?

I use MG Chemicals 4223, the best I know, it works that good (watch at 16:20) :
RX8 is one of easiest to waterproof ESC's, I have 2 of them made and no problems at all
