M12s or 4px
I'm looking to pick up a new radio I like the m12s and the 4px it's for 1/8 off road racing I'm looking for some input on what would be good thank you
|
Radio selection is more of a personal preference, that is which one feels more comfortable in your hands. I've always preferred Futaba, so I have a 4PX, but I don't race nitro off road.

Agreed with jiml that you need to feel them both in your hands as it is most definitely a personal preference thing. You're going to want to like how your radio feels if you're going to be spending that much. Personally, I love my M12 and haven't regretted buying it since the day I got it. The Sanwa/Airtronics stuff just has a certain feel to it that the Futaba stuff doesn't in my personal opinion. That said, you won't go wrong with pretty much anything from either brand. Good luck picking something out!

If you stay in this hobby long enough you will end up using all manufacturer stuff. That being said between your 2 choices definitely airtronics but thats my opinion.

I really like my M12S, We have a Futaba 4pls also, what I like about Futaba, love the antenna less receivers, and I find it much easier to navigate through menus. I will still choose the airtronics over the futaba as it has a better feel to me in my hand and definitively feels more solid.

My take on both Radios. I own a Futaba, but have used the M12 and M12s and MT44.
Futaba Pro: Smaller, lighter radio (personal preference) Easy to read, color LCD Screen Easier to navigate menus (IMO) Cheaper Receivers options Con: Larger receivers compared to Sanwa Notorious steering pot problems Sanwa Pro: Better responds time (on paper) than Futaba Smaller receivers Ergonomics might be better (different for each person) Singular scroll wheel/push button for navigation (some consider this a pro, some not) Less known problems compared to Futaba More racers uses Sanwa to Futaba, easier to gain support on the track. Better resell value (since more and more people are looking for Sanwa systems than Futaba Con: Heavy and bulky Still uses monochrome dot matrix screen Receivers are much more expensive compared to whats available for Futaba |
Owned the 4PX and now using the M12S. IMO M12s is better. Feels more comfortable and no steering issues.

I run 4PX
Everyone I know who has run both prefers the M12S, and we are talking some Reedy Winners, fast guys |
I've run both and strictly from a cost perspective I like my 4PX better. Only because the receivers are cheap and I run multiple cars.

If Latency is important for You then choose M12S.. For sure M12S is the Fastest Radio at the moment.. If I'm not mistaken the top 10 ISTC winners are using M12s..
But M12 is a heavy radio.. That would be the only draw back I guess. Cheers.. :) |
