Spektrum DX5R

Now that its officially been released, figured I would start a new thread to discuss the new DX5R. Details so far:

Spektrum has introduced the new DX5R 5-channel DSMR radio system. The transmitter’s ergonomics are inspired by the DX6R and it allows to adjust the trigger and steering tension, trigger position, wheel drop down setting and also grip sizes. With the help of optional parts also the steering wheel angle and steering wheel diameter are customisable to suit the driver’s needs. The DX5R makes use of Spektrum’s intuitive SimpleScroll programming interface for quick and easy adjustments, it offers up to five drive modes per mode, programming for AVC compatible receivers, programmable mixes, ABS and 4-wheel steering as well as dual rate and expo settings. Built-in telemetry makes monitoring the car’s vital signs easy while the 5.5 millisecond fame rate ensures fast and consistent car control. The radio comes including the SR6000T telemetry receiver and it will hit stores soon.

Features:
– 5 fully proportional channels
– Pro-class ergonomics you can thoroughly customise
– Advanced programming features
– SimpleScroll interface
– Built-In telemetry
– 5.5-millisecond frame rate with compatible receivers
– Programmable vibe alerts
– 250-model memory
– Programming for compatible AVC receivers
– Includes SR6000T telemetry receiver
– EN328 compatible

A few more pieces of info from Spektrums Q & A:

radio includes medium grip only. Small & large grips sold separately. Part numbers listed in second post.

Radio is NOT left-hand adjustable.

WILL work with DSM2 receivers.

screen is backlit, and is a higher resolution than the 4R.

Uses 4AA batteries out of the box, but can be upgraded with an optional battery, part numbers also listed in second post in thread.

That's exactly what it means, yes.

that is awesome !

yeah, i think there was a fair amount of backlash from the 6R being advertised as DSM2 compatible, only to not be compatible when it was actually released.

Im sure this will make many out there happy, as they can keep using their DSM2 receivers.

Not left hand compatable .... Ok oops that's a radio I can't upgrade to then. Shucks !

yeah, thats a tough pill to swallow, seeing as how its the ONE THING that the 4R had, that the 5R does not. Spektrum literally had to go out of their way to redesign the 6R housing to eliminate the possibility of converting to left handed use. Even the grip on the 5R has buttons on the other side, for left handed use.

My only guess, is that this was done to cut costs, though i can't imagine how much savings there would be. This one is really tough to explain.

Still though, its kind of a shame that left handed drivers will have to get the 6R if they want to drive spektrum, though the other brands are the same way, with their only left hand capable models being the top of the line radios.

Yea the 4R still does the job for me and all my spectrum receivers still work on it so I'll be sticking with that for a while longer I guess . It's all good, I never had a problem with the 4R , I have tried to use a righty radio but it just is impossible and the irony is that I'm not even left handed . I just can't drive an Rc car with anything other than lefty remote.

I have a DX4r as well, but one of the original ones that will still bind with the older DSM receivers. I was looking at a DX4s as a "back up" and released its now discontinued. Now I see why. This new 5R has sparked my interest, I'm wondering if there is going to be a TX only version for someone like me who only wants the TX.

SR300 - nope, it won't work - that uses the original DSM protocol (and caught me off guard a few months ago when I got my (newer non-DSM compatible) DX4S radio - I thought it was a DSM2 rx untill I pulled up the data on Spektrum's web site).

SR3520 - non-issue - that's a DSM2 protocol rx (I know, you didn't ask about that one - but since it's older like the SR300, I figured that I might as well list it).

SR310 - non-issue, it's a DSMR protocol rx.

Hope that help clears up the confusion.
