Balancing Times
 

When balancing a Lipo at 1C do some chargers charge faster than others? I have a Venom Pro 2 and find balancing (That last couple hundredths of a volt) can take a long time. Battery is a 2s 4400 SMC battery. Charger issue or being impatient :)

I've recently swapped from the Sky RS16 charger to a Corally Eclips and noticed that on balance charge the Corally takes longer to charge a 4600mah 2s LIPO pack than the Sky charger used to.

It's as you say, my Corally takes longer to finish off charging as the amp rates drops off when compared to the Sky charger.

I reckon in total it's adding around five to eight minutes to the total charge time.


The LIPO's also feel to have a smidge more punch over race duration also when charged on the Corally Eclips.

Try a charger with higher balancing current and better balancing algorithms like Revolectrix Powerlab/GT or Junsi iCharger series if you can. You'll probably buy one afterwards :)

Finally when balancing takes a lot of time it is due the differences in the cells of the battery. You should ask yourself if the battery is ok.

Agreed. Charge rate for charge rate, I've never seen anything finish a battery quicker than an iCharger.

That is a big difference....looks like it has 4x the balancing current of my current charger. Looks like time to find an upgrade.
