Motor temps with fans?

I see that max motor temp after a run should be about 160F. If I put a motor fan in, the temp after a run drops from around 150F to about 100F. Does that mean I can gear up/ increase timing more with a fan verses without it?

Should I turn off the fan for a couple of runs to check max temp, or is it a new ballgame with a fan?

FYI - currently running 17.5 buggy and 21.5 USGT on road.

Thanks

Bruce

I'd consider the fan as an insurance policy on your electronics and would avoid trying to gear up or adj timing to suit the "with fan temperatures".

I always find the max I can go on temp with out fans. As said above the fans are more of insurance. If the fans ever do fail you still know the electronics will be safe

Thanks guys- I suspected that was the answer, but in racing, you have to ask.

I guess it depends on how competitive you are... If you are only at 100 degrees after your run then you definitely have some headroom to gear up or advance the timing. Temps will also depend on how hard and long you drive the car too. I will typically shoot for 140-150 with the fan after 5 min.
