Protek 170SBL Servos
Hey Guys!
Have any of you tried these new Protek 170SBL Servos? I got a couple and I installed them on my MBX7R with Sanwa 471 Receiver and MT4S Radio, but they just make a rare beeping sound, and dont respond to input. Using an LRP Life Battery, everything else works with my other servos. |
I have them as well, when you power them on they will beep until they find the bind to the radio. Once you bind the radio to the receiver they will turn on so to speak.
But since you said it works with the other servos, make sure the plugs are in correctly, +/- into the receiver an that you plugged them in correctly to the side of the servo. |

Absolutely amazing servos, love the startup beep, very trick! Overkill for some, but i like to think that i have power to spare rather than missing :batman: |
Nice !!! I'm glad that worked out lol!!
I was using the protek 170's before and was having bad luck with the steering servo going out for some reason. I'm hoping these prove to be a bit more durable. I've only got a few runs on them but hoping they last a while !!! The only thing that bothered me about them was the fact that I had to shim them up to clear the chassis. |
I have had my 170's for a while and no issues. Always check your end points. over stressing the servo like that will dramatically reduce it's life.

Any updates on the durability/performance 170SBL? How does it compare to Hitec, Futaba, etc?

I would like to know how these compare to the MKS HBL599 and 575. I'm in the market for servos.

I'm getting ready to order a couple new servos. Had really good luck with the 170S's, but have been looking at these. How's everybody liking them?

Purportedly, MKS HBL599s are power efficient, at least in writing. However, mine chatter like the dickens in the neutral state, even moving a little back and forth. This can't be good in terms of efficiency, so I would say the manufacturer claim of power efficiency for MKS servos is false, but just my opinion based on experience. |
I use a few 170 SBL's and 170 TBL's. They're quiet, chatter free, with precise centering and very powerful.
There are only 2 things I dislike.
An alternative servo for similar performance, but with added assurance of being waterproof - at near enough half the price of the Protek - is the AGF 81BMHW. In the UK these [were] supplied by King Cobra Racing [which sadly has now ceased trading]. SMD Direct now supplies AGF. Sadly, the prices have crept up as AGF become so well endorsed - but they're still much cheaper than the aforementioned. Edited: for updating UK supplier details. |
