Lipo puffing machine
Hello, so I have my 2wd buggy running a reedy black box 410r with an rc concept 7.5t motor. The motor had more timing but now its turned down to 15, think gearing is somewhere in 21/84 area, runs about 120 on the ESC and 100 on the motor, but the batteries have always run warm, usually pull off at 100, and this buggy has puffed two lipos on me, I don't usually store them to well and am aware of what that does to a lipo however they seemed to be fine before I got the 7.5t motor? Any idea what's pulling so much? BTW I run one trakpower 4000mah 100c and a protek 100c 3200mah and a turnigy 4500mah 70c. Trak power hasn't puffed other two have. Btw now I do storage them and put them in the refrigerator in between race days.

Do you tend to leave your batteries fully charged sometimes. What i mean is forget that they're charged and then pack them away. That can make lipos swell. Also what charger do you use and what charge rate?

I find shorty or LP shorty packs expand and puff very easily than standard packs. All my shorty packs and 1cell packs have all puffed up. My standard packs from the same brand have not puffed up the slightest when treated the same.
Also, what are your charging habits? If you are the few that likes to charge and discharge at 30-40amps then you are very likely to puff and shorten the life of your battery very fast. Lastly I think you are killing your cells by putting them in the fridge. They do not need to be kept in the fridge u less you intend not to use them for an extended period. |
I'll reply IF the OP ever bothers to log in to the site again..

Storing lipo fully charge and putting the lipo in the fridge probably your mistake. Suppose to store it 1/3 the Mah if not running within 2-3 weeks. Another thing about lipos you can charge them anytime.
