Default Internal Resistance Measurment

I have been thinking about retiring my aging generic four button chargers in favor of a more powerful dual charger. Keeping an eye on individual LiPo cells, I think, would be the best way to keep track of pack health.

Is having the ability to measure internal resistance of a LiPo, a "must have" charger option for a general user who wants to go a step further?

I would say it isn't a "must have" function, but it can come in handy for monitoring the battery over it's lifetime. You can always just use someone else's charger that has the function to get a baseline, then if you feel like the battery isn't performing like it used to, take a measurement again.

If you are racing 17.5 - it's a must have.

If you're racing mod, it's more of just a general battery condition measure as mentioned above.

MarkA- what is your take on a batteries "C" rating in a stock type class?
Over-rated, Should have, Must have, Most Important?
Just a thought.

No, buy a new battery every 6m/year. Sell the old one to someone else who wants a practice pack.

New batter> old battery no matter what the ratting is.

In general, what matters in 17.5 is a lower ir regardless of what the pack says it's specs are. You get that, as mentioned above, by having a) newer packs all the time and b) higher quality packs with better construction. You tend to get "b" by dealing with an ir-aware seller - for example, if you read the pack description like this one from ProMatch, you see more discussion of ir than "C". That being said, there tends to be a correlation that higher C rated packs read lower ir but not always, especially from some of the too-good-to be true "Ships from Warehouse USA #1" brands. Find a pack that works for you from a brand you have confidence in and keep it "fresh".

Thanks for the input. I was looking at the SkyRC D100 charger which is about the lowest priced AC/DC dual charger I could find which gave IR readings. I don't need massive amperage platform. I don't necessarily need a dual charger, it just so happens to be that the D100 had an IR meter.

Either the 406 or the 308. The 308 has easy pay. Best chargers on the market IMHO. Buy nice or buy twice.
