Reedy Mach 3 17.5 1C SS Tuning Question

Hi,

I recently purchased the thread title motor. I ran it last night for practice for the first time and had a couple of questions on how to get the most out of it. My gearing is currently 69/32 with a timing of 30, after 5 - 7 minutes the motor was around 140 degrees. Some people at my track have told me that the reedy likes to be around 170 degrees. What are some of your opinions? I can fool with the motor myself but would like some insight so I'm not wasting my time or potentially causing damage to the motor itself.

Thank you

I run mine in a 2wd buggy with the timing set at 42 degrees on the can (41 actual per motor analyzer). The track I typically run at is a tight medium bite clay layout where I run 31/69 gearing which seems appropriate. My practice sessions are usually 10 minute runs where my motor comes off the track at 125 degrees F consistantly.

My measured free spinning current draw at this timing is around 1.8A. I don't have the numbers in front of me but I seem to remember 44 degrees on the can having a free spinning current draw of ~2.15A. I wanted to keep the motor cool for my longer practice sessions without using a fan so I decided to keep the current draw lower. I believe for my motor ~44 degrees was about the ideal performance timing.

Personally I think 140 degrees is a good temperature to run at, I wouldn't run up at 170 but that is based on my preconceived opinion. Others may have experience that says running consistantly at that temperature is fine for the M3's.

Ok cool. Yeah to add more to what i'm running ... I currently have the b5m and run on a high traction clay/dirt combo track.

I run mine with 69/34 gearing and 20 deg timing at 150-165F. Clay track high to medium .
bite. Fast in the straight and a lot of torque to clear the jumps.

I just order one of these what gearing/timing should I use for tc stock binky carpet racing
Should of I just of pick 17.5 instead of ss?

I run mine at 42 degrees of timing, 12.5 rotor, 47/96 on my TC7, comes off at 120-125 after 10 min
