Orion duo touch overcharging problems.
I have an orion touch duo charger that is overcharging by a good bit.. I set 2 cell battery to peak at 8.4 v. On techs volt meter it is reading 8.68 . I get same on MY volt meter.
Anybody else having the same problem? |
I think it was an issue prior to the 2.1 patch but should be fixed now I believe.

First question is to check balance connections. Pin it out at the battery, balance port, etc. Use a paperclip, or something small so you can reach in with everything connected. I've had balance cables go bad, and the net effect is the charger seeing a lower voltage than is actually in the battery. Also, had balance wires fail inside the batery.

Did you set the end charge voltage at 8.4v ? The cut off voltage is adjustable.
|
Most chargers has Balancing Charge. Chargers peak out at 8.4v. I think all lipo's are not equal. It charges to the average of the 2cells. 8.69v for both cells, if you check out the voltage in Balancing mode, 1 cell could read 4.34v the other cell could read 4.05. It'll be the average of to cells total.
If you cycle the pack, it'll even itself out. Most chargers cycle 3 to 5 times charging and discharging, function cam take up to 10hrs or more. I do it 3x every 6- 8 week depending on usage. Chargers are the same, difference is cosmetically. Function are the same. They came a long way, to keep it safe in the hobby. Good question to ask. Storage of lipo, I think should be taken, store the @ 1/3 the capacity, fully charged and stored could be the problem of puffing up or ballooning. Be safe!! have fun!! |

The available lipo chargers vary by far more than cosmetics. There are significant differences in performance, capability, adjustability, etc. |
For those having issues, contact service and see if the charger can be calibrated. I know some can be adjusted to get into spec.

Problem persists.... can't seem to get an email back from orion.....
|
is it the two channel charger? If so, does it happen on both channels? I think the Hitec and Orion touch series chargers are just badged versions of the same thing (i could be wrong).
Swap the balance leads and or balance board/check resistance of them. to eliminate the possibility of that affecting charging. Also try charging another type of battery and see if the charger voltage/battery voltage are different as per LiPo. |
Tried different balance boards, and leads. Does it on both channels.
Also updated firmware. |
Oh dear...that's not good news.

Hit the "+" on the main screen, then select charge end voltage, then adjust down and check again after a cycle.

Sorry to bring back an old post,
But mine is doing the same thing. It charged two batteries up to 4.34v/cell. Called Horizon and was basically told sorry no warranty for Orion. I said I understand but can I send it in to be repaired. Sorry, don't repair electronics. He said especially on older model products. I said a 1 year old charger at this price should not be considered older. Any thoughts??? |
is your charger registered if yes go to team orion.. go thru the steps.. read in past there was a software update and a way to adjust look on youtube

I recently updated my duo touch charger software to V2.8. It is now over charging my batteries. The cells are coming off a 4.28-4.33v. It even puffed one of my newer batteries. I have confirmed that the end voltage is 4.20 and that I am not charging in HVLipo mode.
