Trackstar gen2 reliability?
Hi guys. I'm considering a gen2 120a trackstar esc. I know there's been lots of failures of the 80 and 120a esc's so was wondering if the gen2's are any better?

:cry:I was thinking this myself. I've seen many complaints but minimal positive reviews. I found one gentleman at the track that said he ran one for the summer with no problems. I know many people that run the 120a turbo with great success but they are never in stock. My best opinion is check this link out Because it's going to be the closest thread on the g2

I've got three problem free ones, and there's a bunch more running at our indoor track.
*edit* I was talking about one cells, sorry. I have five or six gen one, two cell 120A. Love them all. I run the two cells in mod, the one cell gen II 's in 17.5 1/12 scale. |
I have several here, all running in Blinky mode. There have been no problems.

I have two 80 amp turbo trackstars (roar legal). Both running great. One is pushing a 10.5 in a tmaxx with turbo and boost and has been handling it like a Champ
Other is in a buggy with a 13.5. Don't even use the fan for that one. There motors have been good to me to. |
I'll add I would try the gen II but then I'd have to buy another program box. Ive got like ten of their motors too, they take a ton of abuse for sure! I've got twin 6 year olds and a nice track on our property, the equipment gets some miles put on it!

I tried a trackstar gen 2 in my modified car. After 1 day I took it out off the car. Realy unnatural brake and throttle feeling, tried every setting but I was always s all or nothing.
In my opinion, better invest a bit more so you get a good ESC. I found out looking the same isnt always enough ;) If you are a basher it is good enough I think but for racing I would invest a bit more. |
I run the 120amp turbo esc with an 8.5 in my T5M and it's probably the smoothest system I have owned. .

I forgot to add above another of the main reasons I didn't go with the genII for my 1/10 scale stuff was also due to the fact I like having a remote switch. If the switch develops problems on a wired switch, you just leave it on and never touch it, unplug the battery to turn it off. The gen II esc's that I have (1-cell) start out in the off position when you plug the battery in. Not sure if that may become a problem or not, the swtich does seem much better protected on the genII's. I'm going to have to buy a gen II 2-cell to try it out. My 1-cell units work great, and are smooth as I could want. And I race all my cars, not bashers. Honestly it comes down to what you're used to, and your budget. If you like big name stuff, maybe that will sway you against it. But if you like the best bang for your buck, then these products are amazing. Especially if you have more than one racer or basher in your family. |
Figured I post it here. I have a Gen 2 One Cell for 30$ Never ran it. I purchased the wrong ESC I need the 2 cell version. But it has been soldered but never run. PM me for picks if you are interested.

We race 1/8 GTe here on 4s Lipo, it's a class that is brutal on electronics, and at the moment, most of the field is running the Trackstar 150A 2-6s ESC V2. We have between us all been through and tried most, LRP IX8 kept cutting out, Xerun Hobbywings do ok but don't like 2s, the newer Max 8's seem solid, Tekin? Forget it, they fry in this class, and then support tries to point at anything but their esc. Have only seen one Trackstar go up and thats because the batteries were plugged in backwards (reverse polarity)

Every time a question get posted on the gen 2 it turns into a trackstar turbo thread. I have both now and I like the turbo 120a much more. Better punch, break and throttle responce.
Plus the the gen 2 program card is only available international. So 40 buck just for the program card when you already dropped 70 plus on the esc just to be out performed by its 50 dollar predessor trackstar 120a turbo. |
