Testing old lipos
I have 2 SMC lipos 6500 mah 70c . I got them as extras in a deal when I bought a roller.. The guy informed me they have been sitting for over a year... I put them on the charger today both lipos were were at about at 3.55 each cell and balanced ... In power voltage 15.84 no puffing and the lipos are cosmetically in great condition... Do these lipos sound safe to use ..
Thanks Mike I did try and research on some older lipo threads on Rc tech but I didn't, really find the answer I was looking for |
They sound safe enough, if you're really not sure you could use your charger to discharge and recharge to check the capacity before running them. Just keep an eye on them while you do.

so these are 4 cells and they cam off a charge at 3.96volts a cell... id say they are damaged and you will not get the output you will need.. use as long as they last ..check IR bet its HIGH.

B 4.1 worlds
I ran them both plenty of punch and run time thanx for the info

3.96V is very low; do you have capacity cutoff enabled?
|
If they charge to 4.20 per cell, balance out nicely, discharge evenly, can take close or slightly over the total Mah rating when charging, I would say they are winners. Some batteries will take more than their Mah rating, I have some 5,000Mah that will take 5,400Mah and balance nicely.

cycle the lipo's. good chargers have the option to charge and discharge up to 5 times. It may take 12 hrs or more. Longer it take the battery in good shape. Charger discharge at a 1amp rate. just takes patience.

I have lipo cutoff set on my esc at 3.4 I'm not sure if that's what you're talking about.... I'm not very well versed in lipo knowledge... I just know enough to keep from blowing myself up..

I can see were you got confused on that. My bad... I meant that.s were the cells were sitting at after lying around for over a year.there charging fine... Thanx for all the input in this thread ... I do feel safe with these lipos

No problem, I wish you they will last long after surviving that high voltage rest.
