Looking for ESCs with built-in 7.4 BEC
I am planning to buy another ESC.
My servo is a HV servo (Protek 160ss), it runs very well at 6v, but extra voltage can bump up the spec considerably. I think it will be a good deal to to get an ESC with higher than 6V BEC, cuz it also "upgrades" my servo at the same time. I did some good research on this. The only options I found are: Tekin RSX Tekin RS Gen 2 Toro 160A And that is it. Tekin RSX is way too much of a ESC for blinky. Tekin RS Gen2, from what I have been reading, it doens't seems to be smooth. Toro 160A seems to be a good option, but I am not feeling so confident about it after reading through the toro 120A threads. Most threads on this topic were all made before 2014 or older. It is 2016, I am just curious what other options do I have? My current plan is getting the Tekin RS gen2, but I would like to hear other opinions before ordering it. Edit: Not looking to get external BECs, cuz I just don't like having that many wires going on in my 1/10 touring car. |
If your cant find a esc that outputs the higher voltage there is another option.
You can Wire the power from the 2s battery direct to the servo then just run the signal wire back to the reciever. If your running a 1s then that won't work. 3s I thing you can wire to a balancing port. The 8.4 volts that you charge your lipo at for a 2s shouldn't matter as the lipo and servo all have a rating of 7.4 for a nominal voltage. |
I think the Tekin RS would be my choice right now.
On a side note, do not do as the other posted suggested and run straight LiPo voltage to the servo. 8.4 V doesn't equal 7.4 V. Nominal be damned. It's really 8.4 coming out of the battery and the servo is probably rated for 7.4 max. |

I d hate to do additional wire management , it doesn't look clean. |

I just feel like it is too much money spent just for that extra EBC voltage. Maybe wait a few more years, then BEC with 7.4 volts may become popular? |
That servo specs at 127oz./.05 transit speed at 6v already. I certainly wouldn't make my ESC choice JUST so I could run it at 7.4v and get to 152oz./.04 transit.

Ya, I could do that ... but I don't like running it directly from lipo, cuz lip voltage could drop through the runs, and it will feel inconsistent.

I think the Hobbywing XR 8 has a 7.2 BEC

Graupner
This graupner ESC may be perfect for what you want.
I have been using it for more than year and it is a blast... |
The Reedy 410R has a 7V BEC.
