GPS units

As with most people I'm sure, I'd love to check the speed of my vehicles. I've been using an app on my phone but am tired of that. I've seen gps units out there but some of these prices are just absurd for our purposes.

What else is out there that you use?

Or is it worth it trying to develop a unit for us rcer's that is cost effective?

Actually, there are one or two gadgets that can do it, Eagle Tree & Novak both have sold data logger devices that with the proper settings in their software, can give you a decent estimate of top speeds achieved. However, I don't know if either is still available.

I was actually looking into this as well and found this one.

It's just for what we want and at a reasonable price. I picked one up on eBay for $50. I just ordered it so I can't give you my thoughts on the device, but I think someone here actually wrote a mini review on it.

Found it:

Hope this helps!

I got one ready for testing this summer or as soon as I get decent enough weather.

I've got a couple of the SkyRC GPS units. Work good. They all come reading kph not mph. But can be switched from their website. The info can be downloaded and used with goggle earth to see where you drive at. Being a dinosaur, I don't one a computer and haven't seen it, but my hobby store used mine and said it works. Could see a whole run I did. From back door of my house to the park and back.

Saw that unit but still it's $60. I can afford to buy a unit like this but I'll admit it, I'm cheap. I just don't see how something that can track speed can't be ~$30.

It's come down to $60. Plus now can find them in the states. So now crazy shipping. Horizon sells it under their name, think it's around 80.
Seen plenty of drivers use Garmins. Can find a used one on eBay.
