Starter Box Lipo setup checklist
Hello,
So last night I installed a 4S 5000mah 20c Turnigy hard case LiPo into my starter box, and got to remove this heavy gel cell. Man, what a difference in the weight of the unit overall, well worth the investment, which was not very much more expensive than the outgoing battery at all. As a matter of caution, I installed a 30A or 40A (cant remember for sure) Bosch style SPDT automotive relay, to protect the contactors of the starter box from overheating and/or burning. While i doubt the 2-2.5v difference matters much to them, I figure that its better safe than sorry since relays are so cheap and i keep a few handy around the house anyway for my car projects. I used velcro to secure the battery to the bottom of the starter box to easily remove for charging. I also have a low voltage alarm to use to keep me from blowing myself up. Is there anything else i need to do or look at or consider to make sure I dont have a campfire next time i go playing? :D |
It would have been cool to have some pics, mine I rigged two 2s 7.4v in series and works super well w DEANS connectors, none of that Tamiya junk.
If you want to see some improvement, use deans instead. I always use the same batteries and never let them go under 3.80 per cell. |

So here are a couple pictures. Not my cleanest work but it's effective and will stay out of the way of the wheel lol.
