A bad sensor board is more likely than anything else. A super weakened rotor could do this also but you'd have over heated that motor by a LOT.

got to finish up our point series with some tekin gear. The track is smaller, torque is king. was having issues getting my 2wd buggy to hook up properly on the carpet surface that is bumpy underneath. finally got that issue I think solved.

For the classes we run 4wd buggy mod but the track is sized such that a 13.5 motor is more than enough, and 17.5 spec 2wd buggy.

The spec-Rs really offer some nice revs. I kept feeling like the motor would keep pulling more and more. Its low end was also quite respectable versus some other motors which were more torque oriented. Playing with some timing and gearing changes worked well in that regard.

I was actually surprised how well I finished in our super competitive 2wd buggy class, and even though the gremlins came out for me in 4wd buggy, from what I could tell I still set the fastest single lap for all the qualifiers, being the only one under the 14 second mark, with motors coming off nice and cool. Allowed me to finish a respectable 3rd place for 2wd and 4wd buggy for the series.

Looking forward to moving to outdoor turf!

Side question, with the growth of 1/10 4wd truggies these days, seeing places going with a spec 10.5T motor. Does tekin feel of Spec-R 10.5 version would be able to handle the load if made?

The 10.5 Spec R is easily done. However the only other place 10.5s are used with any consistency these days which is Oval racing. Issue there was that our 10.5 was under the minimum resistance spec for the class. If the class "spec" takes off with a 10.5 we may reconsider.

Sorry to revive an older thread but didn't make sense to start a new one. Going to read this thread from the start to see if I can find the answer but someone could probably answer before I find it. Looking at getting a used 17.5t Spec R for my 2wd buggy. Where should I start gearing wise? Reading up on these it seems likely just popping on a gear ratio typical for 17.5t might not work. Any tips?

You'll also need to provide what 2wd buggy you are using.

You'll probably need to experiment a little based on temp readings and your track, but this post should help get you started:

when I asked about where to start, was given the FDR of about 7.5 for 2wd buggy as a starting point. Measured timing via a SkyRC analyzer I have been liking about 41 degrees of timing for a short - medium sided track. My motors with a fan come off about 110 degrees and on these tracks where torque is king still able to hang reasonably well with some of the newer motors like the Trinity X-Factor and R1 V21 and that always torquey Surpass V4 motor. Tekin still rev's very nice though.

Assuming that new Gen4 in the works will be a torque monster since that appears to be where motors have been going if Nick Adams videos are accurate. Stronger and Stronger rotors.

I have a Gen3 17.5 with the 12.5 blue rotor. The replacement rotors, for the Gen3's have been discontinued. Can I replace the Gen3 roto with a Gen4 rotor?

Yes gen4 blue rotor will fit in gen3 motor. The gen4 blue rotor is a little bit stronger and longer. I do think we have some of the other gen3 rotors still available in our cart.

Thank you. I'll check it out. For a couple bucks more, I'll go with the G4 rotor.
