Hey folks ... Broadtech HK has sold out it seems. Any where else I can pick up an MD2 dyno?

I just wanted to add. I haven't used the dyno in awhile and reformatted my laptop. I couldn't get the program to work, all I would get was error 75. Then I remembered you need to right click on the exe and then choose run as administrator. After that the program started up fine. This is on Windows Vista. The laptop is so old it needs to be thrown out, but I am keeping it around just for the dyno.

Which is the proper setting to handle the CSV data you get?

this is what I get right now...

Since the data file is written as comma separated value (.csv) you may have to change the decimal separator to use a "." instead of a ",".

You can do that using the Regional settings in the Windows Control Panel.

UPDATE: MD2 Dyno with Windows 10

I have had success with the MD2 Dyno software and the Anniversary Upgrade for Windows 10. This was on a Dell 6410 laptop that did work with Windows 7 but did not work with Windows 10, ver 1511.

Not sure what changed but I did nothing different and now my MD2 dyno works under Windows 10.

Your mileage may vary and I think it may have to do with a combination of things like Microsoft changed something in Windows 10 ver 1607 and I have the right combination of older hardware.

Hey guys, great thread with great information.

Does anyone know where I can find the MD2? Seems everywhere I've found is out of stock.

I notice the belt drive has a 2-1 gear reduction to the flywheel.
In this case wouldn't the load against the motor be halved?
Or the flywheel needs to be twice as heavy?

Actually the effective inertia of the flywheel for a 2:1 gear ratio would be 1/4 since both torque and RPM are affected by the gearing. These corrections would be accounted for in the calculations.

I so want that Flywheel dyno!

50V / 180 Amp board option, can test anything up to 12S powered motors and certainly anything in 1/10 racing!

Pity it costs a bloody bomb. I run 21.5 in TC, I can't justify such an expensive bit of kit (I could only just rationalise the MD2!)

I blew a few fuses when I first started using the MD2. If I recall that was when I tried testing with dual batts. Even a 21.5 turn will draw 60-70 amps at start up so the 30amp fuse may not be enough. Dual batts will draw more current than a single. I always use a single batt as it replicates the track

I have retired the MD2 control box and switched to a Arduino Microcomputer for data acquisition. Results are much more repeatable. Also no fuses.

There is no link this is just one of my little projects and it is still very much a work in progress. I'm hoping to integrate it completely into RC3 some day.

It's a little cumbersome right now as there is a separate program to communicate with the Arduino and save the data file. It also requires a radio to control the motor. The next step will be to eliminate the radio and control the motor using the Arduino.
