SMC ESC and motor

Looking for some feedback on SMC RF 160 and their 6.5 or 7.5 mod motor> I will be using it in a 4wd buggy. Thanks

Great I loved it when I tested it .. in a 4wd buggy a 7.5 will heat up.. Id go higher . but that just me. I had a 8.5 setup and tested it hard even on 3 cells.. Loved the real 6v bec.. turbo setting where off.

So your saying higher so go to 8.5 ?

Ive run their RF160 ESC as well. I used it to replace my Tekin RS Pro, and think its a good option. Never run the motors tho. I know of a few that do use them. In a D413 6.5 seems to be a common motor to use. I run an Orion 6.5 in mine, and no heat issues.

I picked one up used and it has short motor wires, can I replace them like any other esc

Sure, if they're soldered on from the outside of the ESC.

It has some shrink tube covering the connection. I'm sure it's like anything else, probably has some sort of tab or cup, was just kinda looking to see if anyone has done it on the smc

Don't know why people put shrink wrap around those solder posts. They act as heat sinks so covering them with shrink tube defeats the purpose. (except in 1 cell...not much heat here) Remove the shrink and there should be cups/tabs of some sort.

I cut it off and there are cups/tabs I just hate soldering right on the esc. Ohh well it will be all good
