can't get motor to reverse rotation

I recently installed a turnigy 10.5t sensored brushless motor and there 80a ESC. I need to reverse the rotation of the motor. I read that you need to switch two of the wired around. I have tried every combination and can't get it right. The motor just cogs with any combo other than the standard aa bb cc. I tried reversing it in my reciver but then I lose reverse. PLEASE HELP!!!

Unless the ESC has the ability to reverse rotation, the only way to run a brushless sensored motor reverse is to a) remove the sensor wire then b) switch the A and C wires. This will reverse the motor but you will be running not sensored. Which speed control model exactly and why do you want to reverse?

If its this one

Then you can use these instructions to reverse rotation keeping the sensor intact. Hook up motor wires as normal. Looks like you need the programming box however to do this.

Yup that's the ESC. I figured I might need the programing box so I'll order one of those. I'll try the non-sensored idea in the mean time

Do you need to get the motor running in the normal direction, or reverse it from the normal? What vehicle?

If it's getting it running in the normal direction, counter clockwise shaft I believe, it might be as simple as recalibrating/resetting the speed control, possibly with the channel reversed on the transmitter.

If reverse direction is required, if it's a gear diff car it might need the diff(s) flipped to get it back to normal. Even if the motor needs reversed with software or rewiring the sensor in addition to ABC, the timing advance probably needs adjusted/corrected.

Since sensored motors weren't made to run primarily in reverse, all brand name RC manufacturers design transmissions and setups to have the motor run in the "correct" way.

You can't swap wires on a sensored motor. The sensor tells the ESC where the rotor is and the ESC fires the next phase to get it to rotate. When you swap wires. The ESC thinks it's firing the correct phase, but because moved the wire it's firing the wrong phase.

First if you want reverse, make sure the ESC is set to the mode that allows it. I'm pretty sure the default is forward and brake only. Also I think this ESC wants the transmitter to have channel 2/throttle in the reverse setting. Then go through the calibration steps.

The kit is a sakura d3 counter steer, so its a belt drive car. I also have a one way diff in the front. I was able to reverse the throttle channel on my radio, but then I lost the reverse function. It looks like one of the options on the programing card I just ordered should reverse the rotation. Hopefully this will fix my issues.

What is strange is that I haven't seen anyone else have this issue with the d3

I have HobbyKing speedos in a clod. They are sensored, and the rear motor needs to be reversed. I put the wired like this.. A to B B to C and C to A Some motors work correctly others do not.

I had a issue with a trackstar motor for one of my clods, it would not reverse no matter what. I found that Brushless hobbies software has a reverse program. I tried it out, and it worked, but it is in blinky mode, which im ok with. Im running 4.5 in my clod, and it runs smooth for racing.

I hope this helps

If you lost reverse, but everything else was working correctly, you need to check the ESC's running mode to make sure reverse is enabled. Checking is easy with the correct programming card, but you can also do it with just the set button on the ESC.

So i got the programming card, and apparently only the waterproof esc has the reverse rotation option. I look closer and this motor runs clockwise, where as my other hobbywing and factory Tamiya motors run counter-clock. This SUCKS!!!! I just want to drive this thing!

Any other ideas?

Swap the A and C wires on the motor or ESC...

maxPOWAAA 05-19-2015 01:19 PM

Spent some time with hobbyking customer support and they say the esc does not support reverse rotation. Bummer

JimmyG 05-19-2015 06:59 PM

Like I said, try using the brushless hobbies program.. It has reverse.

maxPOWAAA 06-02-2015 04:31 AM

Sorry jimmy. I'm still very new to all this. Do you have any detailed instructions?

maxPOWAAA 06-02-2015 04:33 AM

Hobbyking tech also said the 120a has reverse ability, guess what? IT DOSENT!!!!!! Another $50 wasted :flaming:
