Sidewinder 3 in a Slash problems (noob)
Forgive me if this has been covered, I searched with no luck.
Background: I won a Napa edition 2wd brushed slash two years ago. It only has 10-12 batteries through it. In an attempt to speed it up, I purchased the Sidewinder 3/ 1406 brushless motor combo. Installed everything tonight - no problems. Powered on and programmed the esc to the contoller (fwd, rev, net) - no problems head out the door, set it down and hit the throttle- truck runs for 1-2 seconds and cuts out (still steers, no throttle). Turn it off/ on- still no throttle turn it off/ on and run the programming again- runs for 1-2 seconds and cuts out. and over and over and over I have tried to run at 1/2 throttle with the same result, run in reverse with the same result Am i missing something simple? I have not been around R/C since I was a kid and my dad had an old RC10 buggy we played with. Thanks in advance for any help -Ben |
What kind of battery pack do you have? If it's a nimh pack it could be the speed control has the low voltage cutoff for a lipo pack turned on. If so that needs to be turned off. Just remember to turn it back on if you later upgrade to lipo.

+1 what dave said. but i would buy i lipo because you will get no run time on the trx nimh on brushless to justify keeping it for brushless i am using an imax b6 charger (dont get a knock off one but you will need a power supply) and a turnigy lipo (5800mah 25c) in my bandit with 4600 sv3 and i get 30-45 min of runtime depending on how hard i run it. but you have a 1410 not a 1406 castle never changed the box. Charger: http://www.amazon.com/ORIGINAL-Charg...s=lipo+charger
power supply: http://www.amazon.com/UpBright%C2%AE...6+power+supply lipo: http://www.amazon.com/Turnigy-5800mA...urnigy+5800mah you will also need this: http://www.amazon.com/Female-Traxxas...let+to+traxxas and this: http://www.amazon.com/Protek-Traxxas...ans+to+traxxas |
The Castle 3 defaults to auto lipo cutoff. You didn't mention what battery you're using. But 7 cell NIMH batteries look like a 3 cell lipo to the ESC when it's in this mode, but the voltage is just barely over the cutoff, so as soon as you run it, the low voltage cutoff kicks in.
You might be able to verify this when you turn the ESC on. When you first turn it on, it makes some noises, then it will do either 2 or 3 beeps, then another set of noises. The 2 or 3 beeps is the number of lipo cells it detected (or thought it detected). You can turn off the LVC by following the steps in the manual. If you're already running a lipo battery, we have some other problem. |
