Charger problums

i bought a protec prodigy 66 quad charge a few weeks ago. bought it to use wile my other charger was being repaired. used it for one day without issue. i sold the charger to a fellow racer last night and when he took it home and tried to us it , he keeps getting a "battery voltage error cell connect". all 4 ports show this and he has tried a few different batteries with the same result. Any ideas what may be causing this issue?

He might have the charger set to a mode where it will want to balance but he doesn't have the balancing cable actually plugged in so it is reading the voltage as an error. He could also have it set to wrong number of cells for what he is trying to charge.

thank you for the reply. that is kinda what i was thinking. I just got back into the hobby a couple of years ago and have not had much experience with lipos yet.

well I thank you for the suggestions. unfortunately that was not the problem. the charger is not working. on a 2 cell battery it is showing up like it has 3 cells in the cell status screen and number 1 cell shows no voltage. we had a lipo checker and verified all the batteries we were testing were good. also tried different balance boards. Even put them on another battery charger and they would charge. I'm very upset because this is the second quad charge I bought that had issues with.(I had to send my hitec back because it was getting hot and the fan would not turn on.) very frustrating.

Did you try bypassing the balance board and plugging the balance lead right into the charger?

Also make sure the pins are aligned. I have a different but also cheap quad charger and there's just an opening with pins for the balance board, not an actual female receptacle. So on some of the channels is possible to plug the balance board in and be off by one pin.

One more thought...do you only get the error when you try balance charging? What about the normal, non-balance charge?

Would isolate if the problem is in the balance system or elsewhere.

yes we tried all of that. it would not charge, discharge, fast charge, storage charge, nothing. we would plug in a battery and hit start, the screen would show like it was going to start charging but it would not show any amps, the timer was going but it showed 0 amps. It would go for about 20 seconds then show the error. I have contacted A main hobbies (i bought it off there eBay store) about returning it for repair but I'm stuck with it now. cost of repair and shipping is going to be more then what i can sell it for, even if I could sell it. This was a hard lesson to learn. should have just waited till my other charger came back.
