Reedy Mod Motor help
 

alright guys I'm having a problem with a couple motors. I have a 7.5 and 7.0 that are acting up, both of them malfunctioned in similar manners, come off a jump kinda sideways, pull the throttle and nothing, so when i went over there to see whats up and i pull the trigger again all you hear is a high pitched sound and then the motor literally smokes. I originally thought it was the sensor board, but after today i don't think it is. A buddy said it sounded like a stator but i haven't learned enough about the motors yet to know. I have switched the sensor board to a different motor and its the sensor because it worked fine. After retesting the 7.5 today just on the table hooked up to an esc no gearing, not moving a car the engine smoked again and it got to 107* in about 40 seconds. One thing i did notice is if felt like there was a slight vibration that i could feel while holding it. :confused:

Kinda sounds like the rotor magnet might have come unglued from the shaft. Pull the rotors out and give them a good look over.

visually the rotors look ok, what i have noticed is that the 7.0 rotor doesn't seem as strong as the 7.5 rotor, but they are both the 12.5 rotors. Would it be an obvious thing to see if the rotors came unglued?

Yeah, take the rotor out, hold the shaft with pliers and see if you can spin the magnet by hand.

Rotor is tight. Sensor is good, I guess that leaves the stator. The tabs are solid.

What's weird is this is the second time it happened with the same 7.5. I raced the surf city Classic last year and asked Brent Theilke from Associated/ Reedy to look at. He took it and fixed it for me(for free I might add) and it worked for a while. It was a little louder and not quite as strong as I remember but then the same thing happened again.

check the spacing of your rotors to the sensor boards ;)
