Is 3 amps for a BEC enough?
 

I had a few "brown outs" while racing the other night and I'm trying to figure out if it's my BEC/ESC or if something else is going wrong. I can't imagine only one servo is robbing 3 amps but I'm not real sure what the true draw of a servo is. It was like the truck was intermittently going into failsafe mode, then it would come back online and be fine for a few laps then do it again. Any ideas?

3A should be enough for most digital servos. Have you tried a glitch buster ?

I'm running a JR Sport analog servo, I'm not sure if that's more power hungry than digital or not.

I was just doing some looking around on here and see the glitch buster mentioned quite a bit. Maybe I'll give that a shot. I can't seem to replicate the problem on the bench of course.

When trying to replicate hold the car with the wheels off the ground, throttle at 1/4 rpm and rapidly turn the steering left to right. Don't over rev the motor but add some RPM while turning the steering and see if it drops out.

Its usually when the motor is loaded and you turn the wheel from one lock to the other when the receiver will drop out.

What ESC and receiver are you running.

I'm running a Turnigy Trackstar Turbo 120a ESC and a Spektrum SR3001 receiver.

I had troubles with SR3001 dropping out with a 1A ESC and digital servo. A glitch buster fixed the problem.

When it happens you can see the receiver light go out and come back on.

I'll try some more bench testing to see if I can replicate it. Thanks for the help.

I was able to replicate it twice with your technique. The light on the receiver went out for maybe 1 second, then came back online. I got it to do it twice within the first minute of trying, then after that it seemed to work flawlessly and I couldn't get it to brown out again.

Yeah a glitch buster will most likely solve all your problems. Cheap and easy fix. If that doesn't do it, might need to look into an external BEC or receiver pack.

It's just a 1/10th stadium truck, I never thought that would be a high demand servo situation.

There is a long arm length on a stadium truck that really challenges a servo, a very long throw. I would also advise the NiZn batteries as well for the transmitter, and make sure you are not using 1.2 volt batteries. I would definitely use the glitch buster as advised.

I'm running an Airtronics M8 with a Spektrum module. I'm running alkaline batteries in that.
