Understanding a external BEC

I'm sure I have this right, just want to verify so I don't fry something.

My brother currently runs a 1s lipo on a mamba pro 1 cell ESC with a 2s life receiver pack.

He wants to simplify and only charge one battery. Problem is the ESC has no BEC in it.

Looking at this BEC

Is it as simple as just tapping the leads from the lipo, switching to 6v and connecting it to the receiver ?

From what I've read, since the ESC has no BEC there is no need to cut the red wire, correct ?

Finally, does the balance plug coming out of the lipo have enough AWG to tap power from to power the receiver ? It will be running a Savox 1256 servo and transponder. The rx is a Futaba 301 I believe, the one that comes with a 4pls.

Thanks.

The BEC can not put out more voltage than the battery is supplying. You would a booster of some sort. Novak used to make one, don't know if they still do or not.

For one cell applications, you need a receiver pack or booster, nothing else will work. BEC's are used for 2-6 cell applications.

I left out the one critical piece of information...... he is changing to a 2s. That's what I get for composing on a tablet.

Since he will be using 2s packs it it will be fine. I put my BEC into the battery plug on the ESC. I would not use the balance leads as they are usually very small wire and only see 500-1000MAh.

The 4PLS comes with an R304sb, which can handle 2s lipo voltage, so you don't need a BEC or regulator if you are running on 2s (assuming your servo & transponder can take it).
