Which 13.5 motor?

I'm after reliability.

These are the only choices that I have:

1. SP MMM 13.5
2. Novak Vulcan 13.5
3. Reedy Sonic 13.5
4. Hobbywing V10 13.5

Will be used mainly for street racing and occasional circuit race.
Kit is SC10.2 and Pro 2.

The Reedy would be my first choice followed by either the SP or HW as a toss-up if you wanted to save a few bucks. Wouldn't recommended a Novak motor and a search on, "Novak sensor board" should answer why.

Ok thanks bro.

It's just that upon scanning thru the Reedy thread made me a little worried on reports of fried mach 2 motors...

that's because they a RPM based and lots of people over gear them off the bat.

Two fastest motor I've raced with had been ORCA TX and D4 maxzilla

So if ever I get the Reedy, I should gear it like a 10.5?

sport10 09-22-2014 09:00 AM

No, gear it like a 13.5 just watch your temps and you will be fine. I use a reedy sonic 17.5 in my two wheel buggy and it is an excellent motor.

Ok bro, thanks for the advice :)

how about Teshock x211 13.5T?

I know Novak gets knocked on a lot, but that's all ive run in my 2wd SCT, 4wd SCT, and mod buggy. I love them. No problems overheating, good power band, and smooth.

This!

Novak is absolute trash. Always have been always will be. Their putrid customer support is even more reason to stay away.

Having used all the listed motors except the Hobbywing, I will recommend the Reedy and don't look back. My buddy races pro and he used to run Hobbywings and whoop up on us all but he's since switched to Team Powers Plutonium. I bought a 17.5 for my new PRS1 and holy cow was he right!!! Extremely smooth and plenty of punch. My son has a Sonic 17.5 which is really fast and smooth, but the Team Powers feels even better thus far. Will have to race him and see how it goes… IF IT DOESN'T RAIN AGAIN!!!! LOL

Team Powers is also similarly priced to the Speed Passion MMM.

I have SP modified motors (10.5, 8.5 & 7.5) and they are just as powerful and smooth as motors double their price, BUT, I'd suggest you read my last 2 posts in the Speed passion thread.

I run SP, Tekin and Reedy motors. In 13.5 I prefer the Reedy Mach2 as it seems to have the most top end without pushing the timing too hard. The tekin redline is a close 2nd. Reliability wise all 3 have been perfect. I've not tried a Novak because of all the horror stories I hear about the sensor boards.

Speaking strictly for reliability and durability, Reedys and LRPs are pretty much bullet proof. Others may be slightly faster but for bashing and having fun, those get the job done.

Thanks for your input guys.

Actually Ive been running a Novak Ballistic motors on my current kits (almost 3 years) except for my SC10.2 which runs on a SP MMM motor. Ballistics I have are smooth and run great until heat cause it to fade in power.

Although the SP MMM motor made me a champion in 1 race, I still feel I can get more speed with a new motor. The SP is noisy on half throttle and when I opened it, the rotor is unbalanced unlike my Novaks.

I'll be considering the Sonic Mach 2 then. I hope it performs better and runs less noisy.

• How much heat can the Sonic Mach 2 take?
• What will be the mechanical timing if I'll run boosted?
