Think the manual says 16 to 20 hours of charge before hand. I usually plug them in about 24 hours before... then take them with me. They hold there charge for 22-27 hours.

So you don't leave them plugged in at all?

No, we made two mistakes when we got ours in 2001.
I thought leaving them charged all the time was correct.. nope. The charger does not stop charging them. They have a simple light of when the voltage is reached, but there is no cut off. So they over charge.. That lasted 2 years. Then needed to replace the batteries.

Then after that, I decided to cycle, 12 hours on 12 hours off with a simple wall timer. Another big mistake, wore the batteries out from cycling too much. That lasted 2 1/2 years.

Now we leave discharged until 24 hours before we need them. That has worked the best. If they are left discharged too long (1-2 months) then they take a few cycles to get back up. > I wouldn't do back to back cycles, just weekly cycle method.
